Bon Secours Maryview Recognized as a Top Hospital in the Nation for Quality

Hospital Receives Award for Outstanding Patient Care and Clinical Excellence

(PORTSMOUTH, Va. - June 14, 2010) Today, Bon Secours Maryview Medical Center announced that it has been recognized with the Premier Award for Quality for efficiently providing outstanding patient care and consistently setting the standard in clinical excellence.  Bon Secours Maryview is one of 21 hospitals and three health care systems nationwide to win the award.

All hospitals in the United States that submitted data to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and the CMS Hospital Compare project were considered for the Premier Award for Quality. MedPar 2008 data is used to calculate Quality and Efficiency Indexes for 60 disease groups and at the overall hospital level.  Premier, an alliance of leading hospitals dedicated to improving community health care, honors the nation’s top one percent of hospitals for excellent patient outcomes.

“This award is the result of the outstanding clinical quality and patient care delivered by our staff everyday,” said Joseph Oddis, Chief Executive Officer of Bon Secours Maryview. “Patients benefit from Bon Secours Maryview’s focus on new processes and technologies.”

Bon Secours Maryview’s Clinical Transformation program has implemented best practices and created innovative partnerships to establish top notch programs.  These include a surgical weight loss program that was honored as number one in Virginia for the fourth consecutive year, a cardiac surgery program that partners with the seventh ranked heart program in the nation, and the region’s best colon and rectal surgery program.  In addition, Bon Secours Maryview’s staff was recently trained by Ritz-Carlton for customer service, to ensure that every patient receives exceptional, personalized care.

“The AFQ honors the efforts of industry leaders to provide high-quality care,” said Susan DeVore, Premier president and CEO. “As we celebrate the achievements of these facilities, the alliance is helping to further improve the health of communities across the nation.”
