Co-Creating a Healthier Future
In Celebration
On November 15, 2011 a special dedication and commemoration of the three year journey to co-creating a healthier Sterling community was held at the Sterling Community Center. Bon Secours St. Francis Health System, Sterling residents, and local organizations all gathered to celebrate the past, present and vibrant future of Sterling!
In the Beginning
In July 2008, Bon Secours St. Francis Health System and Bon Secours Health System, Inc. began efforts to work with members of the Sterling Community to create a shared vision of a healthy community. This healthy community effort is an attempt to work with the neighborhood and the wider Greenville community to “resurrect” Sterling out of the ashes of poor health - like a phoenix - and do so collaboratively.
Working with current Sterling residents, a vision was created and
priority improvements were identified. The vision goes far beyond the
traditional focus on short term health. The Sterling Community and Bon Secours St. Francis Health System are working together to address the sources and enablers of poor health rather than simply addressing the symptoms:
- Community Engagement
- Neighborhood Visioning/Design
- Asset & Capacity Building
- Health & Wellness
- Senior Advocacy
- Youth Engagment
- Sustainability
