FutureCEOs believes success starts young. In partnership with Operation Blessing International and Inwood Church, this one semester program is designed to teach young adults ages 15-26, how to be the next generation of entrepreneurs and CEOs. The program focuses on providing students with the skills and understanding to start their own E-commerce business(s). This program is also designed to help students gain confidence and skills necessary to move forward out of poverty.
Tailored to meet the needs of the Inwood community, at-risk students receive foundations of business training and practical tools to accomplish their goals--and even exceed achivement scores. Coupled with character-building skills, these next generations of leaders are inspired to become formidable community leaders and social entrepreneurs.
Program Expectations:
Goals set in collaboration with education staff of City College Academy of the Arts. Based in e-commerce, students gain an understanding of eBay policies, posting/selling, and goal setting and budget/time management, and customer satisfaction scores. Punctuality and attendance are closely monitored. Some of our initial success includes the following:
- 91%, or 10 of 11 students passed the full course
- All eBay start-ups successfully launched and sold out inventory within 6 weeks
- 2 of 6 teams continue their commerce on eBay or other sites.
Read new research from course instructor, Lyn Korah, exploring vital role that informal education can play in the education of our youth to truly provide equal opportunities for all students. Research shows that a holistic approach will entail a paradigm shift for schools to seek resources and supports from external agencies in order to meet the needs of the marginalized students who are falling between the cracks. This History has proven that schools are unable to accomplish this task on their own. This paper considers how the partnership between schools, families and communities can be utilized to produce not only skilled, but dynamic and resilient citizens.
