green initiatives
Bon Secours embraces ecological stewardship/Greening as essential to the seamless, healing mission of Jesus to bring individuals and communities to health and wholeness and to fulfill its responsibility to God’s creation and future generations.
The organization initiated a system-wide, four-year plan to develop a culture of sustainability and reverence for earth to strengthen the connection between the health of individuals, community and environment in its services.
This plan includes a broad spectrum waste stream management initiative including efficient recycling as well as membership in Energy Star and a system-wide energy management effort. Other projects include reduction in the use of toxic chemicals, elimination of mercury and environmental preferred purchasing.
In 2010, all Bon Secours facilities received Practice Greenhealth Environmental Recognition Awards and committed to the Healthy Food in Health Care Pledge.
