Senior Vice President of Sponsorship
for Bon Secours Charity Health
System Announced
Marriottsville, Maryland, June 23, 2009 --

Vice President for Sponsorship and
Rich Statuto, CEO/President made a
joint announcement today concerning
the appointment of John T. Shea as
Senior Vice President of Sponsorship
for the Bon Secours Health System
responsible for the Bon Secours
Charity Health System (Bon Secours
Charity). Effective June 27, 2009,
Shea will have primary
responsibility in the areas of
sponsorship, mission, and governance
for this local ministry. He is
assuming the role to be vacated at
the end of June with the departure
of Sister Mary Lou Moran, S.C. Shea
will be a member of the BSHSI
Executive Council and will work
closely with Terry O’Brien and the
senior leadership in Bon Secours
Charity in strategic planning,
negotiations, and leadership
development, with a particular focus
on the mission interests of the
Sisters of Bon Secours. In addition
to his sponsorship responsibilities,
he will to continue to work on
special projects in operations and
continue supporting business
development as appropriate.
Shea currently serves as senior vice
president of business development
for BSHSI, a position he has held
since 1993. Since joining BSHSI, he
has led the negotiations for
acquisitions, joint ventures,
strategic partnerships and
reconfigurations that expanded the
health system from 13 facilities in
1993, to its current presence in
seven states. Shea leads the health
system’s efforts to establish new
programs, services and innovative
delivery mechanisms. He has
executive responsibilities for
system strategy development
including service line development
and ambulatory care. As well, on
occasion he served as interim
operations executive for local
systems including the past year
where he provided operations support
for Bon Secours Charity as interim
chief executive and then internal
consultant.
Shea has more than three decades of
hospital-based management
experience. Before joining Bon
Secours Health System, Shea served
as senior vice president of
consulting for Quorum Health
Resources, a national health care
management consulting firm based in
Brentwood, Tenn., where he worked
from 1982-1993. Prior to this, Shea
served as chief executive officer of
Whittier Rehabilitation Hospital,
Haverhill, Mass.; chief financial
officer of Chesire Hospital, Keene,
N.H.; and staff accountant at
Troiano, Connolly & Co., certified
public accountants. He is a
certified public accountant and
received a bachelor of science
degree in accounting from Bentley
College in Waltham, Mass. He earned
a master’s degree in business
administration from New Hampshire
College. A native of Boston, Shea is
a Fellow of the Healthcare Financial
Management Association.
