Bon Secours Health System Appoints
Brother Art Caliman
Senior Vice President of Sponsorship
Marriottsville, Maryland,
August 22, 2008 -- Today, Bon
Secours Health System (BSHSI)
announced the appointment of Brother
Arthur R. Caliman, CFX, as Senior
Vice President of Sponsorship (SVPS)
for the Bon Secours Health System
responsible for the Riverdale, NY;
Baltimore, MD; and the St.
Petersburg, FL ministries. Effective
September 1, 2008, Brother Caliman
will have primary responsibility in
the areas of sponsorship, mission,
and governance for these ministries.
Bro. Caliman will be a member of the
BSHSI Executive Council and work
closely with the senior leadership
teams in strategic planning,
mission, and leadership development.
He will have a particular focus on
non acute services and the mission
interests of the Bon Secours
Ministries.
Sister Anne M. Lutz, executive vice
president for Sponsorship stated, “I
am very excited that Brother Art is
returning to BSHSI to assume the
SVPS role and again contribute to
our ministry with special focus on
non acute services which is
consistent with our vision and SQP.
His knowledge and skills, keen sense
of strategy and energetic
personality are a great fit for
BSHSI.”
Bro. Caliman served most recently as
General Superior of the Xaverian
Brothers community for the period
2001-2007. As general superior, he
was the Congregational leader for
the international religious
community in the U.S., Europe,
Africa and Latin America. In this
role, he designed and implemented
structures for coordinating
operations and personnel within
countries and regions, while
centralizing governance and
administrative services. He
initiated a $15 million capital
campaign for retirement, sponsorship
and mission needs. Prior to serving
this leadership role with the
Xaverian Brothers, Bro. Art served
in two positions with Bon Secours
Baltimore Health System (BSBHS). He
was executive director, Bon Secours
of Maryland Foundation, 1999 – 2001,
and vice president, mission and
foundation, 1994 – 1999. In these
two roles he was responsible for
operations and fund development for
the housing and community
development initiatives of the local
Baltimore health ministry and
mission effectiveness activities of
the local health system, as well as
oversight of community/neighborhood
development efforts. In the early
1990’s prior to coming on staff,
Bro. Caliman served on the BSBHS
board of directors. As well, in the
1980’s at the time the Bon Secours
Health System, Inc. was being
established, he served on the St.
Mary’s Hospital board of directors
in Richmond. In addition to the
above, his broad experience includes
Catholic education, Diocesan
immigration and refugee settlement
activities, social services, and
parish-based peace and justice
activities.
Bro. Caliman earned his Master of
Arts degree in 1971 and his Bachelor
of Arts degree in Sociology in 1970
from Catholic University of America
